  I was part of a delegation at the All Nations Centre on 7/11/14, this is not the first time I have been there. The building is lovely, a great venue, parking and a lovely menu. I have driven past the huge sign on what is one of the main roads going into the Welsh capital. I have to say that as someone who promotes equality and diversity in my personal and professional life, I have always felt a sense of welcome to Cardiff, every time I drive past that sign. Here I should say my heritage is in the valleys, I am the product of generations of Welsh, Roman, Celt, and any other invader or migrant worker who has ever dreamed of a better life in this beautiful country of ours. I work in Cardiff and have friends from many different faiths and backgrounds and 6 years ago I became muslim, I am quiet in my faith but loud in my compassion... On Friday I knew I was going to be there for most of the day and for first time ever, when I went up to the reception and asked, can you help me please, do you have a prayer room or quiet area where I can pray. I was told no, I said anywhere will do, but again I was told that this is a Christian centre, I said ok, I understand that but you have a huge sign that says all nations. At this point I was told that I couldnt be stopped using any of the rooms the conference had hired for that day. I thanked the receptionist and said I would pray outside. In my job and personal life I have always promoted to my friends and colleagues that no matter how any one makes you feel, no matter where you come from, your voice has value and that no one should ever make you silent. I have promoted the Welsh people as warm, generous and empathic people. This was my first ever experience of .......... What..........exclusion...........bad manners...........thoughtlessness...........segregation.............what, I dont know what this is, except it made me feel so disappointed. I was shocked, so, so disappointed. I have never ever been treated with such a shallow attitude. I spoke to some friends about it, was trying to understand this behaviour, this attitude, this intolerance. My friends sat a while, thought about it, went away and after the weekend came to me and said Sally I am so sorry, I hope you know this doesnt represent what true Christians believe. The friends I talked to were Christians and Catholics, practicing people. When I said I regretted not praying in the lobby, both said, if you are ever in that position again please just tell us, we will pray with you. So, while the All Nations centre is all singing and dancing as a venue, its values, the ethics and morals that allow it to think it can call it self all nation are warped and jaded. And as my friends will confirm, this place does not represent our city of diversity and culture. It does not in my opinion hold the right to use such a beautiful sign. Sally Milton
